Stoch RSI

Momentumdraws in its own pane

The stochastic formula applied to RSI instead of price — where RSI sits inside its own recent range. Faster than either parent.

On this chart: 14-period RSI, 14-period stochastic window, smoothed 3 / 3.

What it measures

Stochastic RSI runs the range-position calculation on the RSI series itself: within RSI's own highs and lows of the last 14 bars, where does it sit now? The result swings harder and faster than either parent indicator, hitting 0 and 100 far more often.

How to read it

Use the same 20/80 zones as a regular stochastic, but expect them to be hit constantly — that is the design. The value is timing resolution: when RSI itself barely dips, Stoch RSI shows whether that dip is at the bottom of RSI's recent behavior or mid-range.

Using it on the wheel

On names that rarely reach classically oversold RSI — steady large caps, mostly — Stoch RSI at its lows identifies the relative pullbacks that plain RSI never flags. It describes "as washed out as this name gets," which for premium richness is often the practical question.

Speed is the feature and the cost. An indicator that reaches its extremes weekly generates far more readings than a wheel timeframe needs, and most of them are noise at that horizon. It works best as a refinement on top of a slower read, not instead of one.
