Vortex

Trenddraws in its own pane

Up-swing and down-swing movement, each normalized by true range. The crossings of its two lines are the signal.

On this chart: 14 periods.

What it measures

The Vortex indicator measures upward movement as each bar's high versus the prior bar's low, downward as each low versus the prior high — capturing overlap and gap behavior that close-to-close indicators miss. Both sums are normalized by true range and hover around 1.0.

How to read it

VI+ above VI− describes upward rotation in control; the crossing is the event. It is quicker to flip than ADX and correspondingly noisier — expect more crossings than there are genuine trend changes.

Using it on the wheel

A secondary confirmation rather than a primary read: a Vortex crossing that agrees with an ADX rising through 25 is a trend claim with two independent witnesses. On its own, treat it as an early and fallible flag.
